Native of Chechnya, who called himself Consul of Ichkeria, killed in Turkey

A Chechen businessman Medet Unlyu, who presented himself as an Honorary Consul of the unrecognized Republic of Ichkeria in Turkey, was shot dead on May 22 inAnkara. The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has denied the presence of Ichkeria's Embassy in the country.

The only official Russia's Honorary Consulate is in Izmir. According to the press service of the Turkish MFA, no statements of the Russian party about opening of Chechnya's Honorary Consulate have been ever received.

Medet Unlyu was shot dead in the evening on May 22 near his workplace in Ankara. According to the police, the CCTV footage shows that there were two attackers – one shot at the businessman from a silenced pistol, while the other was driving a car and stood on guard, the RIA "Novosti writes with reference to a source from the press service of the police authority named Nihat Chyrak.

After the double explosion in Boston on April 15, Medet Unlyu gave an interview in which he treated the suspected initiators of the terror act, Tsarnaev brothers, natives of Chechnya, as victims. He also claimed that he had been pressed by the circles associated with the head of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov, the "Hurriyet Daily News" reports.
