HRC "Memorial": in Chechnya, Grozny resident earlier convicted for aiding and abetting militants disappeared
On May 22, Beslan Baidulaev, a resident of Grozny, born in 1977, disappeared without leaving a trace. According to his relatives' story, in 2009, Beslan Baidulaev was convicted on charges of aiding and abetting militants, and after he had served his sentence, he led a peaceful life. This was reported today by the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial".
According to the statement of the Beslan Baidulaev's relatives, on May 21, Beslan came to his family's house located in the village of Yandi of the Achkhoi-Martan District of Chechnya to help with the housework. Late in the evening, he returned to the house from his cousin, and in the morning of May 22, residents of the village saw a large number of power agents near the house.
On May 23, according to the story of the Beslan Baidulaev's family members, they were phoned and asked to come to the Achkhoi-Martan ROVD (District Interior Division). There, they were told that on May 22, the power agents tried to detain Beslan; however, he escaped. His relatives were demanded to report the whereabouts of Beslan Baidulaev, otherwise, they were threatened that their house would be burned, the message of the HRC "Memorial" reports.
According to the information of the HRC "Memorial", on May 25, the family members of Beslan Baidulaev were again summoned to the police station, and, according to their story, the same demands and threats were repeated.
The relatives told human rights defenders that in 2010, Beslan served his sentence and returned to Grozny, and every week he visited the district police inspector. Beslan Baidulaev got married, his family had two children, and he also has the old and ailing father. Beslan was not armed, and none of the villagers on the day of his disappearance did hear any shots, the HRC "Memorial" reports.
