In Yerevan, "Armavia" employees hold protest action demanding to pay wage arrears
Today, near the residence of the President of Armenia, former employees of the company "Armavia" which declared bankruptcy held a protest action. The protesters filed to the President's Office the complaint against the management of the company, demanding to pay wage arrears.
Let us remind you that on March 29, the press service of the national carrier, the company "Armavia", announced the beginning of the bankruptcy procedure. From that day, flights of the company's aircrafts were stopped.
At present (on May 29), the company "Armavia" has not yet submitted the relevant documents to the court in connection with the bankruptcy.
The protest action, which was attended by about 40 former staff members of the company "Armavia", took place without slogans and chanting.
"We do not receive wages for about seven months, starting from last November. Apart from the fact that no one incurred responsibility for leaving 450 persons unemployed, they also do not pay wages," Anna Avetisyan, a participant of the protest action, said in her interview to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
The participants of the protest action told the journalists that was the second letter to President Serzh Sargsyan about the company's wage arrears. The employees of the company did not receive any answer to the first letter.
Mikhail Bagdasarov, the owner of the company, was displeased by the fact that his former employees filed the complaint to the President. The businessman warned the protestors that those persons who had signed the letter would get their money after all their former colleagues. This was mentioned by one of the pilots who preferred to remain anonymous.
Many pilots have already left the country and work abroad. At present, about 150 persons demand to pay their wages, and most of them are staff members of the technical service and stewardesses. This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" by a stewardess, who took part in the protest action.
Several participants of the protest action were invited to the residence of the President, where they were promised that their complaint would be considered and responded within a week.
At present, the "Armavia" conducts negotiations about the gradual settlement of its debts, including wage debts. The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has learnt about it from the press service of the company.
