Washington Post: Ibragim Todashev, shot dead by FBI agent, was unarmed
Ibragim Todashev, a native of Chechnya and an acquaintance of Tamerlan and Johar Tsarnaev, suspects of committing the Boston terror act, who was shot dead by an FBI agent during an interrogation in Florida, was not armed, The Washington Post writes.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that at night on May 22 in the course of a shootout with an FBI agent Ibragim Todashev, 26, was killed. He was familiar with Tamerlan Tsarnaev, one of the alleged perpetrators of the terror act in Boston, said Khusen Taramov, a casualty's friend. The questioning of Todashev, during which he was killed, was conducted in connection with the Boston terror act and the triple murder committed in Waltham in 2011, of which Tamerlan Tsarnaev was suspected, said the FBI. It was explained that Todashev was not suspected of involvement in the terror act at the marathon race in Boston.
On May 29, the FBI confirmed that Todashev was shot dead by the police during his interrogation. Paul Bresson from the FBI promised to thoroughly investigate the incident, but warned that it would take several months.
"The FBI takes very serious to any incidents with shooting, where our agents are involved; therefore, we have effective and time-tested methods of working with them from the earliest stages. The check process is thorough and objective, and is held as promptly as circumstances allow," said Bresson, as quoted by The Washington Post.
According to anonymous sources of the paper, Todashev, who was granted a US political asylum in 2008, pled guilty of committing, jointly with Tamerlan Tsarnaev, the above triple murder; and during questioning by FBI agents, he rushed on them and turned over the table; however, he was unarmed.
Earlier it was reported that Todashev was killed in a shootout. Later, the FBI reported that during interrogation Todashev attacked the agent with a knife and stabbed him, after which he was shot dead.
It is noteworthy that on May 27 Todashev's murder commented by the head of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov, who noted that Ibragim Todashev "was a good guy." "His father is an exclusively decent and educated person working with us as a state official. At the last phone conversation with his father Ibragim Todashev told him that he wanted to go home and that harassment of Chechens had been launched in America. But he couldn't return home, he was killed," Kadyrov said, as quoted by the IA "Grozny-Inform".
