About a thousand attend action "No to theocracy!" in Georgia
Today, the Tbilisi Deda Ena Park has hosted a protest against religious fundamentalism under the motto "No to theocracy!"; it was attended by about a thousand people. The participants signed an appeal to the President and Prime Minister of Georgia demanding to punish the perpetrators of the events of May 17.
The participants were holding posters reading "No to darkness!", "No to theocracy!", "I don't want to be governed by Church!", "I choose democracy!", "Theocracy is not democracy!" "Don't beat us in the name of the nation!"
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that a rally of the LGBT community had been scheduled on May 17 in Tbilisi; however, it was broken up by a counter-action and turned into massive collisions.
The participants of today's action have entered the park through a police corridor to avoid clashes with activists of the counter action, organized by the NGO "People's Front" under the motto: "No to LGBT propaganda!" They met the protesters of the "No to theocracy!" with whistling and shouting, the "News-Georgia" reports.
"We are peaceful people; we don't want any violence. However, we protest against the immoral propaganda unleashed in support of sexual minorities," the "Georgia Online" quotes the activists of the "People's Front".
