Alaverdyan: Amnesty International is objective in assessed the situation with human rights in Armenia
The estimate of the human rights situation in Armenia presented in the annual report of the Amnesty International reflects the today's real picture in the country, said Larissa Alaverdyan, the first Armenian Ombudsperson.
"The bitter experience gives rise to my doubts as to the real steps to be taken to solve the problems," she has concluded.
The report of the Amnesty International published on May 23 treats the situation with human rights in Armenia as a whole as negative. The Armenian section of the document draws attention to reports of observers about facts of bribery and pressure on voters during the elections and notes the hostility of the Armenian community to anti-nationalist viewpoints.
Although the estimate of the Amnesty International is generally objective, in some issues it could be a lot tougher, says Arthur Sakunts, the head of the Vanadzor Office of the Helsinki Assembly of Human Rights.
According to Mr Sakunts, it primarily refers to the issue of the elections held in Armenia. According to his story, the ruling Republican Party takes the position of a monopolist; and it prejudges the outcomes of any significant voting.
