In 2013 Chechnya received more tourists

Last year, 35,000 tourists visited Chechnya, says the Committee on Tourism under the Republic's Government. According to the Committee, most of them come from neighbouring regions for pilgrimage to saints' tombs, and for sightseeing.

Experts of the Committee assert that special interest is exhibited to the Major Mosque of Chechnya named after Akhmad Kadyrov in Grozny, the ancient tower complexes and waterfalls in the mountainous part of the republic, and the highest lake in Northern Caucasus – Kezenoi-Am in the Vedeno District.

The Ministry of Sports of Chechnya is convinced that with the opening of the alpine ski resort "Veduchi" in the Itum-Kale District and a large spa complex "GroznySea" near the village of Chernorechye in Grozny, the inflow of tourists "will grow by several orders of magnitude."

"Some five-seven years ago it was impossible to imagine that tourists, especially foreigners, will come to our republic. But now it has become commonplace; and the flow grows year after year. In 2011, our country was visited by only 7000 tourists; last year we received 5 times more – 35,000," said an employee of the Ministry, Sultan by name.
