New meeting of Armenian opposition in Yerevan

At about 19:00 local time April 16, the opposition staged a meeting on the square adjacent to Matenadaran in downtown Yerevan. About 10 thousand people gathered in spite of the cold weather and torrential rain. Among the speakers were leader of the National Unity party Artashes Gegamian, chairman of the political council of the Republic party Albert Bazeian, member of the political council of the Republic party Aram Sargsian, and chairman of the Armenian People's party Stepan Demirchan. They denounced the actions of interior forces towards peaceful demonstrators on April 13. "Henceforward Robert Kocharian will have no rest, we will stage regular meetings and demonstrations. And don't let him declare that the Georgian or any other scenario is impossible here. He will be removed from power by the Armenian scenario!" said Aram Sargsian.

Albert Bazeian informed that after the police left the headquarters of the Republic party, a number of important archival documents disappeared.

The opposition leaders declared one more time they were ready to lead the people's struggle for the change of power. They announced the next meeting would be held on Freedom Square on April 21.
