Chechnya resumes inquiry into child's HIV infection at hospital

At the demand of the Prosecutor's Office of Chechnya, investigating authorities have resumed the criminal case on the fact of HIV infecting children in a Grozny city hospital in 2010.

"In January 2010, a minor boy was taken to the Republic's Children Clinical Hospital in Grozny with diagnose of pneumonia. He was placed into one room with a two-year girl who was diagnosed as a HIV-infected patient. In about a month after leaving the hospital, it was revealed that the boy was also HIV infected. The check showed that he was infected at the hospital," a source from the Prosecutor's Office told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

The inquiry was many times suspended, since investigators were unable to establish direct perpetrators.

"On March 7, the Prosecutor's Office found investigators' actions unlawful and returned the case for reinvestigation; the case is under our control," said the above source.
