Lawyer: verdict to Mikhail Savva will be surely challenged
The verdict to Professor Mikhail Savva, who was sentenced to three years of conditional imprisonment for a fraud, will be surely appealed against, said his advocate Marina Dubrovina.
On April 2, the Pervomaiskiy District Court of Krasnodar sentenced Mikhail Savva, Professor of the Kuban State University and Director of Grant Programmes of the Southern Regional Resource Centre to 3 years of conditional imprisonment with a probation period of 2 years, and to a fine of 70,000 roubles. Mr Savva was released under recognizance not to leave until the sentence comes into force.
The defence's arguments at the consideration of the appeal will be the same as at the court debates: there was no corpus delicti and crime elements, Marina Dubrovina told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
According to her story, the appeal will be filed after studying the text of the sentence and the trial minutes.
She did not rule out that similar cases will be initiated against other representatives of public organizations and intellectuals.
