Dagestan: builders of Gotsatlin HPP stage protest demanding payment of wages

About 160 workers involved in the construction of the Gotsatlin Hydroelectric Power Plant (HPP) on the Avar Koisu River in Dagestan went on strike demanding payment of their 2-month wage debts.

On April 15, the staff of the Gotsatlin HPP also held a protest demanded to cover their 3-month wage debts. Then, the contractor's managers promised to repay the debts by April 21.

"People haven't received their wages for two months, while their January wages were paid out only on April 18; and no dates for paying the February's and March's ones were declared. They paid out the January wages only because we also staged a strike on April 16; and our bosses were waiting for some high-ranking people to come from Moscow; therefore, they decided to somewhat calm down the workers," one of HPP builders told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

According to his story, he and his colleagues were not going to go to work until they were paid their debts for February and March, as well the bonuses for their working years, which they had to receive in the end of last year together with the December wages.

He added that officials from the "ChirkeyGESstroy" and "Sulakenergo" had come to meet the workers and promised to cope with all the salary debts within a week.
