Counteraction to Language of Hostility project presented in Krasnodar
The Counteraction to Language of Hostility: the Civil Position of Russian NGOs and Media project, which will be carried out in Krasnodar, Irkutsk, Ryazan, Perm, Saint Petersburg, and Moscow, was presented at the Krasnodar Social and Political Center on May 6. The organizers of the project are the Social Information Agency and the Center for Development of Democracy and Human Rights with the assistance of the European Initiative for Democracy and Human Rights (EIDHR). "The task of this project is to attract society's attention to the problem of "language of hostility" and to create moral bars which can stop mutual intolerance," said Irina Dubovitskaya, head of the Krasnodar Regional Public Organization of Russian High-School Graduates.
The authors of the project interpret the term "language of hostility" as discrimination expressions regarding racial, ethnic, and religious features of single individuals and their groups.
Coordinator Lyubov Shemetova told about the beginning of the Journalists Against Ethnic and Religious Intolerance competition. Materials for the competition must be published before August 31, 2004.
Regional media workers, representatives of the Krasnodar regional administration, the office of the Commissioner for Human Rights, the regional commission on human rights, and leaders of city non-governmental organizations attended the presentation.
