MfE forces in Northern Caucasus are at high alert because of threat of heavy rains and mudslides

The units of the Russian Ministry for Emergencies (MfE) are brought to the high alert state, because of the risk of showers and mudslides in Northern Caucasus, said the MfE.

According to the MfE, with the approach of cyclone moving from Georgia, strong precipitations in the form of heavy rains that may trigger mudslides in mountain and foothill areas of the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD) are forecasted.

The warm-up centres have been prepared – they will be deployed in case of aggravation of the situation on the Georgian Military and Transcaucasian Highways, said the MfE's website.

"The preparedness to react to potential emergencies was checked in joint mobile units, specialized fire-fighting and rescue regiments and subunits of the North-Caucasian Search and Rescue Team," the RIA "Novosti" quotes Alexander Drobyshevsky, an official of the Russia's MfE, as saying.

Let us add here that on September 24 a hurricane struck Southern Russia. Strong wind broke the power supply in the Krasnodar Territory, Rostov Region and the Crimea.
