PFPA activist Mukhammed Mirzali arrested in Azerbaijan

Mukhammed Mirzali, an activist of the youth branch of the Goichay district organization of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), has been sentenced to 20 days of administrative arrest. The court found him guilty of disorderly conduct (minor hooliganism) and disobeying the police.

Mirzali was detained on October 30 on the automobile highway Baku-Gazakh passing across the territory of the Goichay District, Gezyal Bairamly, the Deputy Chair of the PFPA, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

"He was walking along the edge of the road, when a car of the patrol police drove up to him. The policemen asked him why he was walking 'on the road'. Mukhammed told them that there is no footpath; therefore he had to walk on the road shoulder. They took him to the police station, where a protocol was drawn up that Mukhammed was allegedly swearing and disobeyed the police," said Bairamly.

According to her story, the young man is "persecuted for political reasons."

"Mukhammed had been actively involved in social and political processes prior to his army service. He recently returned from his service; and he was warned against any further engagement in oppositional activities. However, Mukhammed reactivated his membership in the life of the youth organization of our party," said Bairamly.
