Lak National Council urges Tarki residents to waive claims for Karaman land

Members of the Lak National Council have called a provocation a hunger strike declared by residents of the villages of Tarki, Kyakhulai, and Alburikent, who demand to transfer Karaman land to their Jamaat. The Lak National Council has urged the authorities to solve as soon as possible the problems of immigrants, who, according to the members of the Lak National Council, may turn into an interethnic conflict.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in the morning of November 10, five residents of the Tarki villages declared a hunger strike demanding to restore the Tarki District and include in it the Karaman territory and the mountain of Tarki-Tau.

The Karaman territory is located near Makhachkala. This territory often faces conflicts related to land issues. Residents of the Lak villages of the Kumtorkala District and residents of the Kumyk villages of Tarki, Kyakhulai, and Alburikent claim their rights for the Karaman territory. The residents of the Alburikent village refer to historical documents, claim that the land belongs to them, and ask to recognize them as the repressed peoples.

Kamaludin Budaichiev, the Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Lak National Council, has stated that the claims for the Karaman territory voiced by the Tarki residents "are incorrect and wrong."

Muslim Gasan-Guseinov, the head of the Lak District Branch of the "Spravedlivaya Rossiya" (Fair Russia) Party, has expressed his concern that the conflict around the Karaman territory can cause aggravation of interethnic relations.
