Maikop residents paid tribute to victims of local conflicts
The city of Maikop, the capital of Adygea, has held a commemoration rally of victims of local conflicts. The rally, which was attended by combat veterans from Krasnodar, read out the names of the victims; and fired a salute in their honour.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that every year since 1996, on January 2, Adygea commemorates warriors lost in local conflicts. This day coincides with the anniversary of the death of soldiers of the 131st Maikop Separate Motorized Infantry Brigade in the course of the military operations to restore the constitutional order in Chechnya.
On January 2, 2015, the twentieth anniversary of the above events, the rally was traditionally held at the memorial at the Maikop Garrison.
The memory of the fallen soldiers and officers was honoured by their relatives, officials and law enforcers of Adygea, and delegations of municipalities of the republic and the Krasnodar Territory.
After the rally, doves were released into the sky; and a memorial service was held at the Saint George's Church, erected in the memorial territory in 2002.
