Azerbaijani CEC dismisses about 20 complaints on violations during municipal elections
On January 3, the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Azerbaijan held a meeting to consider about 20 appeals and complaints filed in connection with the municipal elections of December 23, 2014. However, no complaint has been granted, announces Akif Gurbanov, a CEC member.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 23 Azerbaijan held municipal elections; the overall voter turnout was 38.93 percent. The Central Election Commission (CEC) has declared the elections valid.
Akif Gurbanov was the only CEC member, who did not sign the final protocol of the presidential election held on October 13, 2013. He explained his position by the fact that, in his opinion, serious violations of the law committed on the voting day were not investigated and that the election campaign was held with violations of the law.
In total, according to Akif Gurbanov, after the municipal elections, the CEC considered 80 appeals and complaints about violations. However, none of them has been granted.
Akif Gurbanov has also noted that violations took place throughout the whole country: "Complaints came from the capital and different regions. Meanwhile, most of appeals came from the southern area, including precincts of the Lankaran District. That fact has even been mentioned by the CEC leaders."
