In Stavropol Territory, POC members intend to visit Magomed Aliev in SIZO
Student Magomed Aliev accused of promoting terrorism is to be attended by members of the Public Oversight Commission (POC) of the Stavropol Territory. They are to check the statements made by the detainee's relatives who claimed Magomed Aliev had not been provided with the medical care in the SIZO (pre-trial prison) when he had been in need of it. This was reported by Nikolai Borisenko, the Chairman of the POC.
"The fact is that we got our mandates just on the eve of the New Year holidays. I am on sick leave, and I cannot visit Magomed Aliev. However, I will ask other POC members to visit the detainee as soon as possible," Nikolai Borisenko told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Magomed Aliev, a native of Dagestan and a student of the Stavropol Medical Academy, was detained on November 21 on suspicion of recruiting mercenaries for going to war in Syria. On November 27, the young man was taken from SIZO to the hospital; and doctors removed a pen out of his eye. According to the local department of the FSIN (Russian Federal Penitentiary Service), Aliev tried to commit suicide. His relatives believe that agents tried to kill him, and ask to open a criminal case on causing grievous bodily harm to him.
According to Amina Alieva, a sister of accused Magomed Aliev, his relatives doubt that the Stavropol POC will help him.
"We have already contacted them, and we have got the feeling that everyone is intimidated there. The POC members and doctors tremble in front of FSB investigators. At the very beginning, we requested to carry out a medical examination to record the signs of beatings; then we asked to provide us with a video record of the Magomed's meeting with his advocate, when his face bore a visible hematoma; we appealed to the Investigating Committee, and we got no reply. Meanwhile, nothing is reported on the results of the investigation concerning infliction of harm to Magomed's health," stated Amina Alieva in her interview to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
Valery Borschov, a human rights activist from Moscow, has announced his willingness to protect the rights of Magomed Aliev after he receives the materials from the local POC.
