Azerbaijani Service of Radio Liberty partially resumes broadcasting
The Azerbaijani Service of Radio Liberty has partially resumed its live broadcasts after a two-week break caused by the closure of its office in Baku. The restricted broadcasting is delivered from the head office of Radio Liberty in Prague.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that starting from December 26, 2014, the Baku office of Radio Liberty was searched, and the office staff was interrogated by the prosecutor's office. Law enforcement bodies explain these actions by the inquiry into the case of money laundering; while the Azerbaijani Service of Radio Liberty, in its turn, states that they worked completely transparently, timely paid all the taxes and other social payments.
On January 7, they aired a half-hour-long programme "Azadliq LIVE" (Liberty Live). It will be broadcast every day at 8:00 p.m. Baku time from Prague.
In the future, they plan to increase the time on air, said the Azerbaijani Service of Radio Liberty.
Meanwhile, the US Congressman Bill Keating has condemned the Azerbaijani authorities for the closure of the office of Radio Liberty in Baku. "I am extremely concerned about the attack of the Azerbaijani authorities on American and international NGOs and independent mass media," said the Congressman's statement posted on the Radio Station's website.
