Tomb of Sayyid Mir-Gafar destroyed in Derbent

Unidentified hooligans destroyed the tomb of Sayyid Mir-Gafar aga in Derbent, which sparked protests among Azerbaijanis living in the city.

The following message arrived at the SMS service of the "Caucasian Knot" on January 8 at 11:50 p.m. Moscow time: "This night, in the city cemetery, the tomb of Sayyid Mir-Gafar aga, the place of worship of local Azerbaijanis, was destroyed."

The tomb of Sayyid Mir-Gafar aga was situated in the cemetery named "Shikhsalakh" and was a place honoured by Azerbaijanis. So far, nobody has claimed responsibility for the destruction of the tomb, the "Dagestan Today" New Agency reports.

Some citizens believe that hooligans could aim to provoke an interethnic discord in the city. Now, only the interference into the situation of the authoritative leaders of the Azerbaijani community of Derbent is keeping people from mass protest actions, writes the "Haqqin.az".
