Residents of Gyumri commemorate the assassinated Avetisyan family
The action of candle-lighting in memory of the executed Avetisyan family took place in the centre of the city of Gyumri. The casualties' bodies were placed into the church for the funeral service.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on January 12, six members of the Avetisyan family were shot dead in Gyumri. The six-month-old baby was the only survival; it was hospitalized in extremely grave condition.
The candle-lighting ceremony took place in Vardanants Square. Initially, the organizers wanted to hold a rally, but later abandoned this idea.
The action was spontaneous – there were no more than 50 participants. According to local residents, the incident was notable for "inhuman cruelty that needs no comment."
Meanwhile, Valery Permyakov, the suspect of committing the massacre, is in custody in the territory of the 102nd Russian military base, the TV Channel "Mir-24" reports.
The Russian soldier Valery Permyakov will not be delivered to Armenian law enforcement bodies, said the General Prosecutor's Office (GPO) of Armenia. However, Sergey Krivenko, a member of the Human Rights Council under the President of Russia, and Vladimir Novitskiy, the president of the Russian section of the International Society for Human Rights, believe that the transfer of the Russian serviceman to the Armenian party is quite possible under the Russian legislation.
