Dagestani Prosecutor's Office challenges verdict against Maidanskoe resident
Public prosecutors have challenged the verdict against Magomed Abdurashidov detained during a special operation in Dagestan who was sentenced to one year of imprisonment on charges of aiding and abetting militants.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 6, 2014, a special operation was carried out in three villages of the Untsukul District. According to the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF), during the special operation, five suspected militants and one law enforcer were killed, and seven persons suspected of aiding and abetting the armed underground were detained. Six detainees pleaded guilty and were convicted. However, the seventh detainee, Magomed Abdurashidov from the village of Maidanskoe, denied his involvement in the armed underground and claimed that he had been tortured by the law enforcers.
According to advocate Zulfiya Isagadjieva, the trial in the case against 23-year-old Magomed Abdurashidov was held starting from August 26, 2014; however, the only evidence against him was his very testimony.
According to the advocate, the trial in Shamilkala was completed on December 30, 2014, with the verdict of guilty. The judge sentenced Magomed Abdurashidov to one year of imprisonment in a common security penal colony.
The Prosecutor's Office challenged the verdict yet on December 31, the Untsukul District Court reports.
