Chechen office of HRC "Memorial" attacked
Unidentified persons have attacked the office of the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" in Gudermes and assaulted its staff members with eggs. This was reported by Oleg Orlov, a member of the board of the HRC "Memorial".
According to his story, unidentified men in masks broke into the office of the HRC "Memorial" in Gudermes and found there two staff members of the HRC. The attackers shouted: "You defend Kalyapin!" and started throwing eggs in them.
In total, five persons broke into the office, and three of them were defending the attackers, Oleg Orlov reports.
The human rights defender has noted that the staff members of the HRC "Memorial" hardly managed to go to file a complaint to the ROVD (District Interior Division), when the office was approached by officers of the Criminal Investigation Department, who had been already aware of the committed attack.
Oleg Orlov has added that the attack may be associated with the fact that during the recent month, the HRC "Memorial" regularly published information about burning of houses of relatives of suspected militants.
