Chechen Republic to be divided into three anti-terror sectors

The Chechen authorities have made a decision to split the territory of the republic into three sectors and appoint in each of the sectors a top-ranking official in charge for the fight against militants.

"Specific bosses of power structures will be responsible for detecting and neutralizing militants, if any appear to be in the given sector. I will take the general lead on the implementation of the task," said Ramzan Kadyrov, the head of Chechnya.

The division of the republic into three anti-terror sectors is presented as the introduction of new tactics to fight against militants, the website of the Chechen leader and the Chechen government reports.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the largest recent attack on Grozny committed by militants occurred at night on December 4, 2014. According to the law enforcement agencies, in the course of the counter-terrorist operation (CTO), which lasted nearly 12 hours, 10 militants were destroyed and 14 policemen were killed. After that, Ramzan Kadyrov announced the introduction of the principle of collective responsibility for families of militants.

On January 12, the Russian State Duma registered a bill to toughen penalties for terrorists and their relatives.
