Power agents are checking Derbent Mayoralty
Agents of the FSB and MIA have cordoned off the building of the Mayoralty of Derbent and are searching it, said a Dagestani law enforcement source. The city administration has confirmed the check conducted by power agents.
According to the source the building of the Derbent Mayoralty is being searched by FSB and MIA units on economic security.
"They check documents relating to land issues," the RIA "Novosti" quotes the source, who added that the area is cordoned off by OMON (riot police) agents.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that at night on January 8, in Derbent, the tomb of Sayyid Mir-Gafar aga, a place of worship for Shia Muslims, was destroyed. At night on January 9, the cloth that covered the monument to the Azerbaijani poet and thinker Nizami was set on fire. On January 11, the tomb of Sayyid Mir-Gafar aga was again vandalized. According to the experts, questioned by the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, the acts of vandalism in Derbent were committed with the aim to divert public attention from the election of the Mayor by triggering riots on ethnic grounds.
