Dagestani "Nastoyaschee Vremya" suspends its printed version; some employees will be laid off
In Dagestan, on January 1, the printing of one of the republic's newspapers – the "Nastoyaschee Vremya" (Present Time) – was suspended. Not earlier than March, the weekly will start its electronic version. The reorganization will lead to dismissal of four out of six full-time employees, said the editor-in-chief Milrad Fatullaev.
"I think that in about a year we'll restart the hardcopy version," he told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, adding that the decision to become online has to do, first of all, with the desire to optimize the costs and the overall work of the edition, and to bring it close to the user as possible.
The weekly was published in Dagestan since September 2007.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 1, 2012, it became known that because of frequent inspections by supervisory bodies of the Republic of Dagestan of the "Nastoyaschee Vremya", the edition appealed to the Republic's Centre for Defence of Media Rights. The office of the head of the republic had moved suspicions that the weekly was publishing false information in its pages.
