Dozens of witnesses questioned on murder of Armenian family in Gyumri

Within the investigation into the murder of the Avetisyan family in Gyumri their relatives and neighbours have been questioned, as well as colleagues of the soldier Valery Permyakov, who is accused of the crime, said Sona Truzyan, the adviser to the head of the Investigating Committee of Armenia.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that at night on January 12 in Gyumri six members of the Avetisyan family were killed. The only survivor of the attack – a six-month-old baby – is in extremely grave condition and is being treated in Yerevan. Valery Permyakov is under arrest in the territory of the 102nd Russian military base deployed in Gyumri. According to the General Prosecutor's Office (GPO) of Armenia, he confessed of the murder; but he will not be given out to Armenian law enforcement bodies, as he is a citizen of Russia and is under the jurisdiction of Russian investigative authorities.

Sona Truzyan said on January 17 that investigators took samples of biological tissues from servicemen of the Russian base, which are currently under examination.

So far, nothing is reported about the results of the interrogations conducted under the murder case.

Let us remind you that on January 15, the funeral of the Avetisyan family in Gyumri escalated into a protest action and clashes with the police. Protesters demanded that Permyakov should be tried in Armenia. It was reported that 14 persons suffered and 13 were detained after the clashes. Later, all the detainees were released.
