Georgia holds protest against caricatures on Muhammad in "Charlie Hebdo"

In Georgia, residents of the village of Duisi in the Pankisi Gorge have organized a protest action in connection with the publication of caricatures on Prophet Muhammad in the French magazine "Charlie Hebdo".

The Duisi residents have stated that they condemn terrorism and abuse of the religious feelings of believers on grounds of freedom of speech and believe that the attack on the "Charlie Hebdo" edition office is not a terror act, the "Georgia Online" reports.

The protest action has involved residents of several villages of the Pankisi Gorge. The protestors have stated that the protection of Prophet Muhammad is their main duty and that the publication of the French magazine offended their religious feelings, the "Trend" reports on January 19.

The number of the protesters in the Pankisi Gorge has not been reported.

The protest actions against the publication of caricatures on Prophet Muhammad were also held in Northern Caucasus. On January 19, Grozny hosted a mass action "We love Muhammad" initiated by the Chechen religious leaders. On January 17, two mass rallies were held in Ingushetia.
