Railway service between Grozny and Moscow to be resumed

The regular railway service between the capital of the Chechen Republic and Moscow will be introduced beginning from May 30. That day, for the first time over the last several years, the Grozny-Moscow train will make its run. "This will really be a very important event in the life of our republic. The fact that the branch line connecting Grozny and Moscow will start functioning means both new workplaces and an opportunity for the residents of the republic to travel like all normal people do, without numerous changes and extra expenses," a high-ranking Chechen government official said to the Caucasian Knot correspondent.

For their trips to Moscow, residents of Chechnya had to use trains departing from the Chechen town of Gudermes or from Nazran (Ingushetia), Vladikavkaz (North Osetia), and Nalchik (Kabardino-Balkaria). The Grozny-Moscow train is supposed to make two runs a week, but there are plans to make daily runs in the future.
