Freedom House places NKR among partially free countries
In its annual report on situation with democracy and political rights in the world, the international human rights organization "Freedom House" has listed the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) among partially free countries. The editor-in-chief of a local independent edition believes that the republic sees positive trends.
The "Freedom House" assesses the behaviour of the authorities of world countries by two criteria: political rights and civil freedoms. Each of them is assessed by the scale from 1 (high) to 7 (minimum).
According to the report for 2014, the NKR was awarded five points in each of the criteria. Armenia is also ranked among this group of countries with five points for political rights and four points for civil freedoms. Azerbaijan is placed among non-free countries, writes the "Panarmenian.net".
Anahit Danielyan, the editor-in chief of the independent edition "Karabakh-open.info", hopes that the upcoming parliamentary elections will be held in the same way as the presidential election; and the "Freedom House" will not cancel its assessment next year.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that by the outcomes of 2012 the NKR was withdrawn from the list of non-free countries and found to be partially free; and then, by the outcomes of 2013, it was left on the list of partially free countries.
