The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that at night on January 12, in Gyumri, six members of the Avetisyan family were assassinated. On January 14 and 15, residents of Gyumri and Yerevan held two mass protest actions; both of them resulted in clashes with the police; in Yerevan, 38 protesters were detained; in Gyumri – 13.
Vladimir Gasparyan said, as quoted by the "Yerkramas", that the Investigating Committee (IC) is considering many versions of the incidents. He called on journalists not to spread unreliable information.
"Two days ago, rumours were spread that six armed soldiers escaped from the Russian military base," the "Armenia Today" quotes him as saying.
On January 26, Unan Pogosyan, the First Deputy Chief of the Police of Armenia, said that the IC is considering the version that Permyakov did not act alone. Experts have stated that the protest moods in the society will depend on the behaviour of the authorities, while NGO activists have demanded from Armenian authorities to take the investigation of this crime under their control and make the details of the murder public.
