In Yerevan, entrepreneurs threaten Armenian authorities with sit-in strike
A new protest action of entrepreneurs, who oppose the amendments to the Law "On Turnover Tax", is taking place near the building of the Armenian government. The protesters announced their readiness to hold a sit-in strike, if the government fails to hear them, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.
During the action on Friday, the participants announced s start "of the refusal process of private entrepreneurs." They decided to lodge to the government applications about temporary cessation of their business activities. According to preliminary estimates of the organizers, about seven thousand entrepreneurs ready to join this campaign.
According to Arshak Khachatryan, one of the protesters, the above law is aimed at the elimination of small and medium-sized businesses and towards monopolization in all economy sectors. He referred to the Constitution of Armenia, in particular, to Article 8, which states that the country "guarantees the freedom of economic activities and free competition."
Against the background of protests, the government is discussing the demands of entrepreneurs concerning the Law "On Turnover Tax" with the participation of a delegation of entrepreneurs.
Valery Osipyan, the Deputy Chief of the Yerevan Police, said that the entrepreneurs' action is unsanctioned.
