Armenian opposition demands parliamentary hearings on murder in Gyumri
The parliamentary opposition demands to organize closed hearings in the Parliament on the murder of the Avetisyan family committed in the city of Gyumri, said Ruben Akopyan, the leader of the "Heritage" faction.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that at night on January 12, in Gyumri, six members of the Avetisyan family were assassinated. On January 19, the only survivor in the massacre – a six-month-old Sergey Avetisyan – died in hospital. A Russian regular soldier Valery Permyakov, who was accused of the mass murder, was arrested and taken under heavy guard in the territory of the 102nd Russian military base.
The oppositional trio – the "Prosperous Armenia", "Heritage" and the Armenian National Congress (ANC) – is against of making a show out of the issue; therefore, they suggest to hold closed parliamentary hearings, said Akopyan.
"The hearings must be attended by the head of the MFA (Ministry of Foreign Affairs), the head of the National Security Service (NSS), the head of the Police of Armenia and the General Public Prosecutor," said Akopyan, adding that the incident is beyond the scope of legal aspects; and all the components of the matter should be discussed.
According to his version, the oppositional parties offer to fold the hearings on February 6.
