Gannushkina: "Civil Assistance" is unable to present requested documents by deadline set by prosecutors
The prosecutors' actions to demand personal data of employees of the "Civil Assistance" Committee are beyond legal norms; and the volume of requested data is such that it will be hardly prepared by the appointed deadline, said Svetlana Gannushkina, the Chair of the Committee.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on January 30, prosecutors made checks of the offices of the "Civic Assistance" and Transparency International in Moscow. By demand of power agents, these organizations must submit a number of documents by February 2.
Let us remind you that after the above checks Svetlana Gannushkina associated the prosecutors' actions with her criticism of the Law on the Prosecutor's Office and her speech in the course of the hearing at the Constitutional Court. According to her story, she may be forced to appeal against the prosecutors' actions.
Let us remind you that on January 22 the Russia's Constitutional Court held a hearing on the complaint on non-compliance of certain provisions of the Federal Law "On the Prosecutor's Office of the Russian Federation" with the Russia's Constitution. The complaint was filed by Russian non-profit organizations (NPOs), including the International Society "Memorial", the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial", the "Civic Assistance" Committee, as well as personally by Svetlana Gannushkina.
The complainants believe that the powers of the Prosecutor's Office to carry out inspections of legal entities and in its sole discretion define the grounds, frequency and duration of inspections will hinder the work of NPOs.
