Anti-war picketers in Volgograd report attempts to disrupt the action

In the evening on January 31, Volgograd hosted an anti-war picket demanding peace in South-East of Ukraine. It was the second on that day in the city. The picketers told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that they received threats.

The first picket against the war in Ukraine was held at the intersection of Heroes Alley with Lenin Avenue in the Tsentralny District of Volgograd; it was organized by activists of the International Union of Anarchists. The second picket was held in front of the regional branch of the Central Bank of Volgograd. It was organized by the Volgograd oppositionists within the all-Russian civil movement "Strategy 31".

Vladimir Vasilchenko, one of the organizers, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent about provocations during the action.

According to his story, an hour before the picket, one of the activists, Galina Tikhenko, and later the rest of them, received threats of execution from some citizen. He told the picketers that he was "a former officer-internationalist."

Activists have noted that the presence of policemen did not prevent the man from threatening the picketers. In response to activists' complaints, policemen explained that they would take action only if threats transform into actions.
