Anzor Shkhanukov, Imam of Mosque "Mansour", beaten up in KBR

Anzor Shkhanukov, the Imam of the "Mansour" Mosque, was hospitalized after being beaten up by unidentified men, said Valery Khatazhukov, the head of the Public Human Rights Centre of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR).

According to Valery Khatazhukov, the incident occurred in the evening on January 31 near Anzor Shkhanukov's house.

"At about 9:00 p.m. he drove home in his car. At the doorway, he was approached by two unknown young men, who attacked him without explanations. With numerous bruises and traumas, he was taken to the emergency medical centre," Valery Khatazhukov has reported today on his page in the Facebook social network.

Later, it became known that Imam Anzor Shkhanukov was examined by doctors and sent home for treatment.

His wife said that today the Imam has turned to the OVD (Interior Division) of Nalchik with an application on the fact of beating.

Valery Khatazhukov has treated the incident as a "flagrant crime". "Anzor is one of the most educated and fair Imams. We will demand an objective and fair investigation of all the circumstances surrounding this crime," the rights defender has concluded.
