Ingush opposition activist Magomed Khazbiev is arrested, and he is being kept at the IVS-1 (temporary detention facility) in Grozny. This was reported by his advocate Khedy Ibrieva.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on January 23, Magomed Khazbiev, according to the advocate, was detained for several hours by staff members of the Ingush Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA). On January 25, the Ingush MIA reported that Magomed Khazbiev and his family members were suspected of stealing vehicles and storing weapons. Magomed Khazbiev treated the suspicions voiced by the MIA as political persecution.
According to Khedy Ibrieva, her client was detained for 48 hours.
Magomed Khazbiev is the head of the regional branch of the Republican Party of Russia-People's Freedom Party, and he owns the website of Ingushetiyaru.org, which in April 2013 was recognized extremist by the decision of the court. In December 2011, Magomed Khazbiev signed a statement addressed to the head of the Sharia court at the Ingushetia Muftiyat. The statement demanded to bring to responsibility the head of Ingushetia and the head of the Ingush Election Commission on charges of fraud at the election to the State Duma held on December 4, 2011.
