Resettlers attack police station in Tartar District of Azerbaijan

About 100 resettlers from the Agdam District, living now in the Tartar District of Azerbaijan, have attacked the local police station after they learnt about the death of the detainee Sabukha Dunyamaliev. There are victims of the attack.

The spontaneous protest action broke out in Tartar on February 4. It was caused by the death at the police station of Sabukha Dunyamaliev, a resettler from the Agdam District, who was suspected of illegal drug dealing. His body had clear signs of torture, his relatives assert, while the police claimed that he had committed suicide by hanging himself.

During the protest action, riots broke out in the district centre, in which, according to police, about a hundred people took part. They broke windows of the ROVD (District Police Station), where the above detainee had died. To stop the protesters, the authorities invited internal troops. Clashes took place between power agents and protesters, the Contact Online News reports with reference to local residents.

As a result of operative measures, the illegal actions of citizens were suppressed; however, eight policemen were injured; and six people suspected of doing it were detained.
