Yerevan: picketers demand to give Valery Permyakov out to Armenian law enforcers
A group of Yerevan residents has held a picket in front of the General Prosecutor's Office (GPO) of Armenia demanding the transfer Valery Permyakov, the Russian soldier, accused of massacring the Avetisyan family to local law enforcement bodies.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the mass murder in Gyumri caused a wave of protests after a GPO source said that the suspect would not be handed over to Armenian law enforcement bodies, since he is a citizen of Russia. On January 19, Alexander Bastrykin, the head of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF), promised to try Permyakov in Armenia, but by the Russian Military Court.
The today's picketers handed a letter to Gevorg Kostanyan, the Prosecutor General of Armenia, in which they demanded "to act openly and publish the letter he addressed to his Russian counterpart Yuri Chaika."
The point is in the petition sent by Kostanyan to Chaika on February 3 with a demand to transfer Permyakov to the Armenian party.
In their letter to Kostanyan, the picketers demand to guarantee that those in charge of the tragedy in Gyumri will be punished according to the Armenian legislation.
