Assembly of elders in Derbent urge Putin to check legality of criminal case against Yaraliev
The participants of the emergency assembly of the Board of Elders of Derbent have appealed to Russian President and the heads of country's law enforcement bodies to check the legality of the criminal case against the city Mayor of Imam Yaraliev.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the emergency assembly of the Board of Elders was held on February 11 in Derbent. It was convoked amidst the checks conducted by power agents of the work of the Derbent Mayoralty, which is viewed by the participants of the above assembly as pressure on local authorities and an attempt to disrupt the celebrations of the 2000th anniversary of the city.
After Yaraliev came to power, the socio-economic development of Derbent saw a positive trend; the city has changed, said the participants of the assembly. In their opinion, the republic's leaders are trying to discredit Yaraliev and impose "their people" to head the city.
The assembly has adopted an appeal to the top leaders of Russia, Dagestan and law enforcement bodies. The positive changes in the life of the city and the growing authority of Imam Yaraliev proved to be unacceptable for "the former masters of the city," grouped around Murad Gadjiev, a State Duma MP and a former director of the Derbent Cognac Factory, says the appeal.
The assembly was attended by over 200 people, says the portal "Lezgi-yar.ru".
