Deputy Director of medical college in Nazran resigns after students' complaints about ban on hijabs

Lyubov Azieva, a deputy director of the medical college in the city of Nazran, has resigned after the Security Council made a check of students' complaints that they were not allowed to wear hijabs.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on March 2 the head of Ingushetia Yunus-Bek Evkurov instructed the Security Council to go and check the complaints of female students of the above college that some teachers forbade them to wear hijabs.

"During the check conducted by the Security Council, it became clear that the college had no regulations: in particular, no dress code rules. The director of the college was reprimanded; and Lyubov Azieva submitted her own-will resignation application," Albert Barakhaev, the Acting Secretary of the Security Council of Ingushetia, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

In her turn, Lyubov Azieva, the former deputy director for training of the medical college, denies the allegations that she prohibited students from wearing the hijab.

"My responsibilities were the attendance, performance in training and discipline. I scolded them for academic failures, saying that they were not learning properly, thus, occupying other students' places. I also made comments on their clothes. We are a medical school; and we have certain requirements for the dress code. But I would never have occurred to say what was written in students' complaints," Lyubov Azieva told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
