Defence of Dagestani resident Imangazali Magomedov appeals against his sentence

The defence of Imangazali Magomedov, a resident of the Dagestani village of Shaumyan, sentenced for aiding and abetting militants and for illegal possession of weapons and drugs, has appealed against the verdict. According to an advocate of Imangazali Magomedov, the appeal and the objections to it from the Prosecutor's Office were sent to the Supreme Court (SC) of Dagestan.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 2, 2014, power agents detained Imangazali Magomedov after the searches carried out in his house and in his mother's house. During the searches, according to investigators, they found a pistol and ammunition in the Magomedov's car. On March 11, 2015, the Kizlyar District Court sentenced Imangazali Magomedov to seven years of imprisonment.

According to Elena Denisenko, an advocate of the convict, in the appeal, Imangazali Magomedov indicated that the court of first instance failed to give a fair assessment of the evidence of his innocence with regard to illegal possession of drugs and aiding and abetting militants.

Elena Denisenko has also noted that Imangazali Magomedov draws special attention to the fact that the court failed to assess the fact that he was beaten after his detention on June 2, 2014.
