3 killed in landmine explosion in Chechnya

Several people were killed and injured in an explosion on May 31 in the village of Alkhan-Kala, situated seven kilometers away from Grozny. A high-capacity explosive device was mounted by unknown people in a garbage heap on Kraynyaya Street, reported a source at the Chechen interior ministry. "Two women and a 14-year-old teenager were killed in a terrorist act in the village of Alkhan-Kala in the morning today. Three locals with bad injuries were taken to hospital," the source said.

The officer refused to give names of the victims referring to the lack of information. The police estimate the capacity of the bomb at about 500 grams of trotyl equivalent. A criminal investigation in the terrorist act has been launched.
