Train service between South Osetia and Georgia to be resumed

Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili told a briefing in the Georgian State Chancellery on May 31 that he had ordered to resume train service between Tskhinvali, the capital of the breakaway republic of South Osetia, and the rest of Georgia. He gave corresponding Georgian departments one week to resume the train service, which was suspended 13 years ago as a result of the Georgian-Osetian conflict.

Besides, all pensioners in South Osetia, including Osetins, will receive pensions from the Georgian budget beginning from July. According to Mr Saakashvili, the first channel of the State Georgian Television will start broadcasting news programs in Osetian in a week. The Georgian president pointed out that political dialogue would certainly be established with the leadership of the breakaway republic. "I will not allow Georgia's disintegration," he said.
