Conflict parties 'did not reach mutual understanding' again

President of Nagorny Karabakh Arkady Gukasian has commented on the results of the round table on the resolution of the Karabakh conflict that took place in Moscow in late May. The result of is that the sides did not reach mutual understanding, the president said. "It is difficult to name at least one issue that was adjusted. Nagorny Karabakh, Armenia and Azerbaijan rejected initial proposals presented by mediators because of different reasons," Mr Gukasian noted. He pointed out that it was quite natural for the work in such formats as there is no tradition of communication between the sides. "I think time is needed to work out a constructive base for the talks. It seems to me that this forum will continue and there may be new proposals. The Karabakh side is inclined to work constructively in any case," the president said.

Asked by the Caucasian Knot correspondent about the visible increase in the activity of European structures in the Karabakh settlement and consequences of it, President of Nagorny Karabakh Arkady Gukasian said that the Karabakh authorities welcomed efforts of all the European structures. However, he added: "There is the OSCE Minsk Group. Its special role is the resolution of the Karabakh conflict. We think this structure is prepared more than the others for the talks if to take into account the experience gained and efforts spent over these years. And it is hardly reasonable to look for new formats."
