Two KBR residents convicted for aiding militants

A court in the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR) has sentenced two local residents on charges of helping the armed underground.

According to the Department for the KBR of the Russian FSB, Bekturganov, 35, and Kushkhov, 29, were involved in delivery of weapons to the KBR via the channel, organized by the leader of "the south-western sector" of the republic's armed underground Tkhagapsoev, M. M., who was killed during a special operation on May 17, 2014. Power agents have established that Bektuganov and Kushkhov bought weapons and ammunition for militants, and ensured their secretive residence.

According to law enforcement bodies, when the defendants' households were searched, power agents found and confiscated plenty of automatic weapons, ammunition, improvised explosive devices, as well as narcotic drugs.

The Chegem District Court has sentenced Bekturganov to five years and two months, and Kushkhov – to two years and two months in a general-security colony.
