International women's conference in Derbent
The international conference "Caucasian Women Promoting Values of Peace, Tolerance and Non-violence" finished its work in Derbent on June 3. Representatives of women's organizations from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and some North Caucasian republics of the Russian Federation attended it.
The subject matters of the last day of the conference were the promotion of the Caucasian women's status and role in society by means of developing education in the spirit of tolerance and human rights and the protection of migrants' rights as an important component of neighborly relations between the Caucasian peoples. The special attention was paid to the problem of refugees and internally displaced persons and to the participation of women in the resolution of conflict situations.
Conference participants adopted a resolution at the end of the conference. They called upon all forces counteracting international terrorism to unite and advocate the renewal of the forms of interethnic dialogue traditional for the Caucasus, which are based on the respect to the elders and women.
The decision was made to give international status to the Derbent center and organize a resource center on its basis.
