Abashidze's units stop opposition activists from Tbilisi at Adjarian administrative border

Activists of the Adjarian opposition who came to the autonomy's administrative border at 11:30 local time on May 5 were stopped on the Choloki River by armed units of the Adjarian leader, Aslan Abashidze.

A column of cars with the opposition activists left Tbilisi for Batumi on the night of May 4-5. They want to join participants in the actions taking place in Adjaria with the demand of Aslan Abashidze's resignation.

Over 200 people came to Adjaria's administrative border from Tbilisi. Among them are Koba Khabazi and Edvard Surmanidze, leaders of the opposition movements Our Adjaria and Democratic Adjaria; Tengiz Asanidze, a former "personal prisoner of Abashidze" recently released by the decision of the European Court; representatives of the Batumi and Kobuleti offices of the Kmara (Enough) movement; and deputies of the Georgian parliament.

  • Two natives of Northern Caucasus injured in shootout near “Wildberries” office in Moscow

  • In Volgograd, court recognizes absence of HIV therapy in prison hospital

    The Central District Court of Volgograd awarded prisoner Ruslan Mitrofan compensation in the amount of 1000 roubles, recognizing that the administration of a prison hospital in Volgograd violated the prisoner’s right to receive medical care by not providing him with an HIV medicine.
