Project to protect prisoners' rights presented in Azerbaijan
On June 14, the Office of the Commissioner for Human Rights in Azerbaijan and the OSCE Office in Baku presented a joint project to protect the rights of prisoners.
"The project is aimed at investigating possible violations of the rights of prisoners in different prisons. The project provides for regular monitoring of the prisons for the purpose of revealing violations of the prisoners' rights," the ombudsperson's press service reported.
"The project mainly involves police departments in Baku. Representatives of the interior ministry, the prosecutor's office and non-governmental organizations will take part in the monitoring," the press service noted.
The project will end with seminars for police officers and prosecutors. Among the subject matters are "The Role of Interior Agencies in the Protection of Human Rights", "About the Police", and "Cooperation between the Ombudsperson and Police Agencies".
