South Osetian women hold rally

Approximately 200 women from South Osetia staged a rally on June 16. They protested against the construction of a detour road. The protesters came to the place of the construction in four busses. Among them were mothers and wives of people who died in 1991-1992, the years of the Georgian aggression.

Elena Kochiyeva and Bella Pliyeva, who participated in the action, said they had information that the Georgian side planned to use the road to transfer weapons, ammunition and heavy military equipment to Georgian villages situated north of Tskhinval.

"If the Georgian side has nothing to hide, it can use the existing road, which is under the control of peacekeeping forces," the women said.
